WHY GROUP THERAPY WORKS:
1. THE SOCIAL MICROCOSM
A therapy group is like a little slice of the real world! The way people connect, clash, or support each other in the room often mirrors how they interact outside it. That means you get a secure space to notice your patterns and try out new, healthier ways of relating — with instant feedback.
2. OUR SENSE OF BELONGING
One of the best parts of group therapy is realizing you’re never alone. You’re surrounded by people who truly get it, who have felt what you feel. This kind of acceptance builds trust, eases our loneliness, and creates room for honest conversations.
3. THE POWER OF IMMEDIACY
In group therapy, the most powerful moments often happen right here, right now. If something comes up between you and another member, you can talk about it on the spot. It’s a rare chance to work through feelings in real time, with the support of a therapy, instead of replaying them later in your head.
Adult Groups
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
- Operates Monday through Friday from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm consisting of Group Therapy
- Designed to treat adults needing an intensive level of structured therapy while avoiding the restriction of inpatient care
- This offers an appropriate transition for individuals who recently completed inpatient treatment
- We are also suitable for patients who are currently receiving outpatient therapy, but would benefit from short-term intensive therapy
- Our PHP treatment includes weekly meetings with our psychiatrist Dr. Gray Hilsman, our nurse Cheryl Dunlap, RN, BSN, and an individual therapist
- There are two distinct PHP groups offered — the Psychiatric Group and the Dual Diagnosis group. Patients are placed in the group that best suits their needs
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
- Operates Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am to 12pm consisting of Group Therapy
- Designed to treat adults that require more care than twice a week outpatient therapy
- This is a great option for people that have recently experienced a major adjustment in their life, a heightened sense of anxiety or panic, a moderate depressive episode, or for those that would benefit from more structured therapy on a more frequent basis than what Outpatient Therapy offers.
- Our IOP treatment includes bi-weekly meetings with our psychiatrist Dr. Clyde Glenn, our nurse Marcia Farrar, RN, LMFT, and weekly meetings Angela Essary, MS, LPC, as your individual therapist.
- IOP treats psychiatric disorders but not substance use disorders

Psychiatric Group
This group treats a variety of mental health issues and psychological disorders, including:
- Anxiety Disorders such as generalized anxiety, panic, and obsessive-compulsive disorders

- Bipolar and Related Disorders
- Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders such as PTSD, Acute Stress Disorder, and Prolonged Grief

Dual Diagnosis Group
This group treats the co-occurrence of psychiatric diagnoses alongside substance use disorders. What classifies as a substance use disorder (also known as “addiction”) is a cluster of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological symptoms indicating that the individual continues using the substance despite significant substance-related problems (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders V-TR).
We treat alcohol abuse, pain medication abuse, prescription drug abuse, abuse of recreational drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, crystal meth, etc., and behavioral addictions such as gambling, gaming, sex, pornography, shopping, internet, food, etc. through the 12-Step model.

Intensive Outpatient Group
This group treats a variety of mental health issues and psychological disorders, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Sexual Trauma
- Bipolar Disorder
Additional Tracks for Treatment
We do offer two additional tracks for our adult treatment groups: Trauma Recovery and Eating Disorder. They function as supplementary groups in addition to the care you receive at the PHP level. These both require an additional assessment post-admission to determine if you would benefit from either group.
Our Trauma Recovery Track is for intentionally treating traumatic events impacting a patient’s well-being. This will include addressing, but not limited to sexual trauma. Participants will receive psychoeducation on how trauma relates to maladaptive behaviors, anxiety, and depression. This group focuses on healing through the development of healthy coping skills to manage triggers, depression, anxiety, and self-harm behaviors.
Our Eating Disorder Track treats Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge-Eating. This is a 12-step model, with a weekly group lunch, didactic and process groups, body image work, and creation of individual food plans. Weekly support from a dietician is available for patients on this track.

We offer a free family support group every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 4pm. Our hope is that we can offer help to our patient’s family members to better understand how they can be of best support to their family. Many families have questions and concerns like, “I don’t understand what my spouse is experiencing”, “I feel lost on how to help them”, “Are they getting better?”, “Does this treatment really work?”, “How will this impact us moving forward?”. This would be a great time and place for you to explore these big questions with us and we would love to be a support and guide for you in this time.

Frequently Asked Questions
General
Do you take insurance?
We do take insurance! We are in network with most major insurance companies like AETNA, CIGNA, UnitedHealthcare, UMR.
We are a preferred provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, including the State of Mississippi Employee Group.
At the time of your free initial assessment, we will ask you to provide us with information concerning your medical insurance coverage. We will contact them to confirm that coverage includes details of any deductibles and out of pocket amounts that are your responsibility. Right after your assessment we’ll meet to review insurance information and discuss payment options should there be any remaining obligation.
Do you offer payment plans?
Of course we do! We don’t want any financial barriers to get in the way of your mental well-being.
We also can work with you and your family to develop a self-payment option if you choose to do so.
Do you accept Medicare/Medicaid or Marketplace insurance?
Unfortunately, we are not a Medicare/Medicaid nor Marketplace provider. We also can work with you and your family to develop a self-payment option if you choose to do so.
What is the length of treatment?
Our program is based on each individual’s needs, so your length of treatment will vary. We do anticipate at least 12 weeks minimum for each of our patients. This allows enough time in treatment to digest and implement what you’ll learn and experience to begin to notice a lasting positive change.
Is a therapist available after hours?
Yes! Three Oaks has an independent crisis line only for current members of our program or an immediate family member that is with the patient at the time they’re calling to get in touch with the on-call therapist any day of the week. This number will be given to you on your first day of treatment.
If you’re not currently a member and experiencing a crisis call 911.
If you’re not currently a member and experiencing thoughts of a strong urge to end your life call 988.
Do I have a say in who my individaul therapist will be?
We welcome all of our patients to share if they have a preference for who they would like to see individually. We usually are able to make that arrangement happen, but it’s not a guarantee. This could potentially be caused by a particular therapist’s scope of practice is not equipped to treat certain presenting problems that may require extra training to be qualified to successfully treat. Or a therapist’s schedule may not allow to take on anymore individual slots. But we will be sure that you’re satisfied with your assigned therapist!
How do we communicate with physicians or therapists who refer patients?
We send weekly treatment updates to referring physicians or therapists and a discharge summary when treatment is completed.
Specific
Will my teen miss school?
Only the last part of the day if their school meets past 2pm.
We coordinate with and encourage your child to still be diligent with their studies while in treatment so that they do not fall behind.
How does parental involvement work?
We offer a family group every other Tuesday at 5pm to discuss and support your involvement in your child’s life. We do not talk about what your child discloses in group.
We also schedule family sessions with each patient, the frequency varies case by case.
Parents and Guardians are allowed to come in at the beginning of Adolescent Treatment Team every Wednesday at 1pm to collaborate with our therapists.
You will also typically have a bi-weekly, if not weekly, check-in with our Adolescent Coordinator over the phone. This is to just discuss your child’s well-being and if they’re making progress.
We also encourage all parent’s to start seeing their own therapist to explore and examine their experience of their child being in treatment and how to better support, love, and encourage your child through doing your own work in therapy.
Will what my teen says in therapy be talked about with me?
No, confidentiality is a right for your child to exercise. However, there are exceptions for everyone that being a harm to yourself or others or any known abuse occurring. We will not break your child’s confidentiality without any of those prior circumstances and we will talk with your child before we would ever need to break confidentiality.
What happens after PHP?
Most patients step down to weekly therapy and regularly scheduled appointments with their doctor for medication management. They are almost always with providers not affiliated with Three Oaks Staff.
This may be due to prior treatment you may have been receiving before Three Oaks, such as seeing an individual therapist, or none of our staff may have the availability to take on new client’s in their independent practice. Therefore, we usually will refer you to professionals outside of our practice whenever you complete your time here.
Will I be “cured” after treatment?
No single program can guarantee a cure, but PHP and IOP offers intensive care to build a new foundation to operate within your daily life to continue to build skills and stabilization for ongoing recovery.
If you made it this far we want to thank you for checking us out! We hope you found everything to your liking. Give us a call at 601-991-3080.
